THE GOSPEL IS FAITHFUL AND WORTHY
1 Tim.4:9

Tom Harding

"This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation" (1 Tim.4:9). The gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ is faithful, that is true and reliable, to God's character, covenant, people and word (Heb. 13:5-8). Because of these things the gospel is also worthy of our trust. Consider these things.

1). Worthy of our commitment; "I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day." (2 Tim. 1:12).

2). Worthy of our consideration; "Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus" (Heb.3:1).

3). Worthy of our charity; "Now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity" (1Cor.13:13; 1 John 4:10).

4). Worthy of our confession; "Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses" (1 Tim.6:12-13).

5). Worthy of our confidence; "For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh." (Phil.3:3; Heb.7:25).

6). Worthy of our coming; "To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious" (1 Peter 2:4).

7). Worthy of our continuation; "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:31-32).

Every believer can identify and rejoice with the glorified saints in heaven and say, "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever" (Rev. 5:12-13).
